All wonderful! What type of pencil do you use for figure drawing? I definitely need suggestions because I smudge everything....

  2. I'm usually using a .7 mechanical pencil filled with 2b lead so that the line comes out a little darker than the hb. Smudging usually happens if you are rubbing your hand back over your lines, and if you need to keep your hand rested on top of the paper like that, then you could put a piece of tracing paper underneath your hand to rest on, that way the oils from your hand won't touch the pencil marks. It won't guarantee a smudge-free drawing, but it will probably help a lot. Another thought is that you could create your drawings from corner to corner so that you never need to touch the drawing. If you're right handed, the top left corner is a good place to start and finish at the bottom right corner. I started drawing that way because I had the same smudging problems, but somehow over the years I learned to rest the smallest bit of my hand on the paper. (this kind of "corner to corner" isn't so helpful when you need to sketch out the preliminary stages of composition). I still smudge things too, but I don't think it's all that big of a deal in my sketchbook. The smudges can be part of your drawing, and make really beautiful transitions from light to dark when they are intentional.

  3. These are really good poses. I can't wait to see some of them painted up.

I love the lazy cat. I feel like that today. Lovely gray weather.

Really nice. I love your style - the bold dark line especially.

  5. really like the top one, the patern over the face really works!
