collaboration project

sometimes working creatively is harder than crying blood, and this week has been exactly that for me. So today I started working on a collaborative painting project with Oil Covered Hands to try and return to the mode of play. This is our progress so far, he started the underwork, and this is the addition that I have worked on, simply by reacting to what paint was already on the canvas, and where I felt compelled to add more. The best part about this project is that whenever I start to feel attached to what I've done, and no longer want to "mess it up" by pushing it further, I can just walk away and let the other half of this project take over. He's not as attached to the work that I've put in, and can then react to the work that I've done. Like a tug-of-war, and hopefully the result will work out well. It'll probably take awhile to finish, maybe a week or so, so if the results are good, I'll put another picture of it up when it has evolved.

  1. Wow, you both do some of the best work I've ever seen. I love the freeing aspect of collaboration and the element of the unknown. But letting go and not being too precious about a collab can be the biggest challenge. Will you post the results as they continue to evolve? Anyhow, thanks for posting this!

  2. thanks so much Steve! I'll be sure to keep posting as it changes. Knowing the way we are so different regarding artwork, there will be a lot of change.

Thanks for your thoughts! It really brightened my day :)

  3. I've always wanted to do a collaberation of sorts... but damn it, I'm just the biggest control freak ever.

I really like the drawing at the top of this post!
