inktense

played with Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils today. It krinkled up the page in my sketchbook, but I like the way they are so vibrant with rich color.

  1. That is good color. I love the horns. Is it just me, or do skulls seem very wise. Just looking at the skull of an animal, it seems like it could talk. I don't know. Horns being a symbol of wisdom sort of adds to it in this case. For in death we may learn much about life.

  6. haha - you're far from generic r_sail! Your art is awesome too.

The paper is Ingre laid paper, found in Fabriano Artist Journal. Really durable stuff. I love it.

I'm new to these pencils myself and only picked them up because I heard they are so vibrant (very true). I got the 12 pack, don't see the need for the 24 really, cuz you can blend with them so well.

    Thanks all!

  8. Oh wow--great job Ester. Georgia O'Keeffe better look out.

I never heard of these pencils though. Thanks for writing about 'em. Must check out.

Anyhow, now I wanna draw skulls again--they're so fun, with all the details--the holes and spaces and cracks and curves.

  10. Watercolour pencils are such a natural transition between sketching or drawing and painting that it's often hard to bypass them! This is another superb drawing, and in your hands the pencilled watercolour looks absolutely natural. Buckled paper? Ah, we need big fat heavy paper presses... :)
