"Sea" for Illustration Friday

(Close up view above)

I've had this thing for drawing octopus images lately. So I thought it fitting to post this one for Illo Friday's subject of "Sea".
My favorite part of a poem about the sea:
"There is a silence where hath been no sound,
there is a silence where no sound may be,
in the cold grave-under the deep, deep sea."
- Thomas Hood
Great work, love the fluidity of this piece.

Very interesting, what medium are you using?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. This was done using a gessoed surface, I then transfered a drawing that I had done on regular paper, onto this surface using a xylene marker blender. From there I coated the whole thing with wood stain (smells horrible, but with time it airs out enough).
ReplyDeleteIt's so subtle and restful. Very lovely and different.
ReplyDeleteLoved both the image and the poem. Thanks so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! Bitumen is another alternative to wood stain you might like to experiment with. Excellent reesults!
ReplyDeleteVery nice; the wood grain has a fluidity that replicates the gentle current of the sea. Also like the one tentacle that is reaching for the viewer.
ReplyDeleteWOW! It's just beautiful. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThere is a vibrant elegance about the octopus. Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMe encantó el efecto abstracto que logra tu obra!
